Quick Facts

  • Role: Disaster Management Summer Intern

  • Duration: 10 weeks (early June to early August)

  • Work mode: Hybrid from Baton Rouge, LA or Tallahassee, FL, or remote from anywhere in the U.S.

  • Relocation/Housing: Not provided

Description

This is a rotation-based, learning-focused internship across the disaster lifecycle: Preparedness and Insurance, Emergency and Disaster Operations, and Disaster Recovery. Interns work with consultants on day-to-day work so they can connect planning, response, and rebuilding activities instead of seeing them in silos.

Responsibilities

  • Move through each service line on a set rotation schedule
  • Preparedness and Insurance (planning): exposure to emergency operations plan development, hazard and vulnerability assessments, and exercise design (tabletop, functional, full scale)
  • Emergency and Disaster Operations (response): exposure to Emergency Operations Center structure and staffing, Incident Command System and National Incident Management System practices, resource typing, mutual aid requests, and situational awareness products
  • Disaster Recovery (recovery): exposure to FEMA Public Assistance program delivery, damage assessment and documentation, cost recovery, and grant compliance
  • Tasks and projects vary by rotation and caseload; the internship guarantees exposure and learning time with the teams, not guaranteed hands-on ownership of a specific project

Requirements

  • By the start date, at least 30 credit hours in emergency management, homeland security, public administration, political science, public health, or a related field
  • U.S. citizenship required

Benefits

  • Full-time 10-week summer internship (early June to early August)
  • Pay range: $31,272.00–$53,162.00 (final pay depends on factors including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and contract provisions)
  • Hybrid or remote work options within the U.S.
