Description

You will serve as a lead Java developer on a primary assignment to understand and redevelop legacy COBOL code into Java. The role expects senior-level Java expertise with solutions delivery from conception to completion, plus the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams and support agile progress. If the primary assignment is successful, additional code rewrite opportunities may be available.

Responsibilities

• Lead Java development for the assignment and collaborate with other developers

• Design, code, test, and document Java application components

• Use best practices and help establish or refine coding standards

• Work in agile/iterative cycles and provide evidence of progress toward completion

• Determine solution approach with IT team members and subject matter experts

• Maintain security and integrity of the application; troubleshoot and fix bugs

• Prepare documentation (e.g., flowcharts, narratives, code comments) and provide technical training

• Coordinate programming activities and resolve feasibility/accuracy issues through collaboration

Requirements

• 10+ years industry/professional Java solution development experience in Windows environment

• 10+ years Java Persistence API (JPA)

• 10+ years SQL

• 10+ years RESTful web services

• 10+ years JUnit

• Ability to propose, document, and implement software project lifecycle solutions (software and documentation)

• Excellent written and oral communication skills with technical and business teams

• Experience understanding COBOL code (highly desired)

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE/IT or related field (highly desired)

• Experience with JavaScript frameworks and SPA solutions (e.g., Angular or Blazor) (highly desired)
