Description

You will help set up and run a new company-owned data center, covering server hardware installation and rack wiring, network connections and switch/firewall configuration, and operation of a Proxmox environment.

The position emphasizes automation for Linux installation/configuration and includes ongoing monitoring, backup management, and incident recovery with hardware replacement. You will also support administration of Linux systems and several infrastructure services (e.g., Puppet-based configuration management and CheckMk monitoring).

Responsibilities

• Source and prepare server hardware, assemble and test new servers, and replace defective components

• Mount servers in racks and perform copper and fiber (LWL) cabling

• Establish network connections and configure switches and firewalls (VLAN/routing)

• Automate OS installation and configuration (e.g., PXE, Ansible, Puppet) and help shape the procedures

• Monitor servers and other hardware; restore service during outages, including hardware swaps

• Operate and further develop the Proxmox virtualization environment

• Support administration of Linux servers, configuration management (Puppet), and monitoring (CheckMk)

• Support services and platforms such as Redis, RabbitMQ, Solr-Cloud, and ELK, plus MySQL/Percona databases

• Set up and monitor local and online backups

• Support end-to-end data center operations from commissioning new hardware to ongoing monitoring and repair

• Actively participate in process automation

Requirements

• Experience building and maintaining server hardware (assembly, testing, rack mounting, cabling, component replacement)

• Experience with networking, including switch and firewall configuration (e.g., VLAN, routing)

• Experience operating Proxmox (clusters, storage)

• Solid Linux knowledge (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, or similar) and interest in automating installs/configs

• Several years of system administration experience, ideally in a data center environment

• Analytical, structured, and detail-oriented working style

• Ability and willingness to work on-site in the data center in the Gotha area

• German skills at least C1 or English skills at least C1
