Cloud Engineer for Event Streaming Platform (Kafka/Pulsar)

Senior • Remote

584,256 - 606,300 PLN/yr

Quick Facts

B2B cloud engineering consulting role focused on evaluating Apache Pulsar as an event streaming platform alongside existing Kafka and JMS systems.

Description

Design, deploy, and benchmark Apache Pulsar clusters across sovereign cloud, AWS public cloud, and on-premises infrastructure. Evaluate protocol compatibility with existing Kafka and JMS workloads, validate geo-replication/fault tolerance, and ensure observability and production readiness. Deliver architectural assessments, performance results, and final recommendations for Pulsar suitability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture assessment and define target-state architectures for intra-cloud, cross-cloud, and hybrid messaging scenarios
  • Deploy, configure, and operate Pulsar clusters on CleverCloud, and containerized deployments on OpenShift/Kubernetes
  • Plan and run performance benchmarking across message sizes, load levels, and tenant configurations; compare against Kafka baselines
  • Assess Kafka-on-Pulsar protocol handlers (Starlight, StreamNative KSN) and Pulsar JMS support; prototype low-code-change migrations
  • Configure and validate geo-replication across sovereign cloud, public cloud, and on-premises; test latency and disaster recovery scenarios
  • Integrate Pulsar monitoring with corporate tools and validate operational visibility
  • Configure and test Pulsar multi-tenancy (tenants, namespaces, access policies)
  • Produce POC findings, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and final recommendations
  • Collaborate with Kafka operations, solution architects, and application teams; share knowledge with stakeholders

Requirements

  • 5+ years in cloud architecture/distributed systems/messaging platform design or operations
  • Fluent English (written and spoken)
  • Degree in a relevant field (Computer Science/Engineering/IT)
  • Strong hands-on Apache Kafka experience (architecture, operations, tuning, troubleshooting)
  • Apache Pulsar knowledge or ability to ramp up quickly
  • Experience with multi-cloud and hybrid architecture design (AWS + sovereign cloud + on-premises)
  • Containerized platform experience (Kubernetes/OpenShift, Helm)
  • Automation and Infrastructure as Code (Python, Bash, Terraform, Ansible)
  • Monitoring and observability experience (Dynatrace, Grafana, Splunk, OpenSearch)
  • CI/CD and GitOps experience (GitLab CI, ArgoCD)
  • Messaging protocol knowledge (JMS 2.0, Kafka protocol, AMQP) and migration/bridging
  • Knowledge of Pulsar protocol handlers (Starlight for Kafka, StreamNative KSN, Pulsar JMS) or willingness to evaluate
  • Event streaming/processing knowledge (Kafka Streams, Flink, Spark Streaming)
  • Performance testing experience (design, execute, interpret load tests)
  • Strong analytical documentation and communication skills (including ADRs)
  • EU citizenship required

Benefits

  • Fully remote work with occasional business trips to Luxembourg
  • Onboarding in Luxembourg (1–2 days on-site)
  • 6-month B2B contract with possible extension; daily rate 530–550 EUR net/MD
  • Work with experienced architects and platform engineers on cloud-native, distributed messaging, and event-driven architecture projects
