Description

You will guide and oversee airborne system development for flight recorders (cockpit voice recorders and flight data recorders), helping improve aviation safety. The role centers on software development lifecycle activities, requirements gathering, and coordinating resolution of customer issues for next-generation black boxes using RTCA DO-178C compliant processes. You’ll also refine software design methodologies and coding best practices, with growth potential toward an Engineering Product Owner role with design authority over the recorder portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Develop flight recorder software using C, C++, and Python
• Support the full software development lifecycle: requirements definition, design, coding, testing, and engineering documentation per RTCA DO-178C
• Design, execute, and evaluate software tests using simulators to verify data streaming functionality
• Follow, oversee, and refine SW design methodologies while enhancing coding best practices
• Communicate issues with stakeholders/team and contribute to their timely resolution
• Ensure goals are completed satisfactorily and that issues are communicated in a timely manner
• Support Recorders COE initiatives, long-term strategies, and product roadmaps

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering (advanced degree preferred)
• Senior-level skills in C, C++, and Python
• Experience with operating systems such as VxWorks or other real-time operating systems
• Hands-on PKI infrastructure experience (key management, certificate lifecycle, trust chains)
• Practical knowledge of X.509 certificates, authentication, and authorization mechanisms
• Familiarity with RTCA DO-178C development principles
• English communication ability: B2 to C1
