  • Focus: Relational database reliability, observability, scaling, and infrastructure automation

Description

As a Staff DevOps Engineer (DbOps), you bridge schema design, site reliability engineering, and infrastructure automation for core data systems. You take ownership of database health—improving query performance, architecture scalability, and reliability by proactively addressing scaling bottlenecks such as sharding and replication topologies. You use an SRE mindset to continuously improve observability, efficiency, and disaster recovery for production databases.

Responsibilities

  • Own observability, monitoring, and alerting for production database clusters and replication topologies

  • Optimize database engine configurations for performance, stability, compliance, and security

  • Design scalable database schemas and storage architectures for high-growth workloads

  • Implement advanced data scaling strategies: sharding, partitioning, and high-availability clustering

  • Triage critical production database incidents and lead long-term preventative solutions

  • Lead disaster recovery testing, data classification, and major engine upgrades

  • Build cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code to automate deployment pipelines and environments

  • Collaborate on complex migrations, schema reviews, and query optimization

  • Participate in systemic architecture reviews as a database engineering authority

  • Automate operational tasks and third-party API integrations using scripting and automation

Requirements

  • 5+ years hands-on production experience designing, implementing, and operating relational databases

  • 3+ years experience in DevOps, SRE, or software engineering

  • Production-scale relational database expertise (MySQL, PostgreSQL) including backups, replication topologies, indexing, and partitioning

  • Advanced knowledge of database architecture, data modeling, query optimization, and high-availability/backup & recovery

  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code in public cloud environments (e.g., AWS) using Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, or CDK

  • Proficiency in programming languages for automation and integrations (e.g., Python, Golang)

  • Strong operational familiarity with Linux, Docker, and container orchestrators (Kubernetes or ECS)

  • Hands-on CI/CD pipeline experience (GitLab, TravisCI, CircleCI, Jenkins)

  • Demonstrated experience deploying monitoring and observability platforms (Datadog, New Relic)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/IT or equivalent experience

Benefits

  • Paid holidays and flexible scheduled time off

  • Equity in a rapidly growing startup backed by top-tier VCs

  • MacBook setup plus a $500 workspace stipend

  • Central European Time (CET) hours to support balanced scheduling
