Description

You will join a lean platform team to help enable a move to Data Mesh, where product engineering teams own the data they produce and consume. This is a hands-on role building data products and pipelines on AWS, onboarding bronze/silver layer data from legacy warehouses, and working with product teams to define data contracts and ownership. You will also provide enablement through collaboration, pairing, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

• Design and build consumable data assets / data products (CDAs) on the AWS data platform
• Define schemas, documentation, and ownership for data products; support handover to product teams
• Work with product engineering teams to define data contracts and establish domain ownership
• Help teams understand how their data fits into the wider data landscape
• Onboard bronze and silver layer data from existing data warehouses using internal tooling
• Contribute to tooling that accelerates data platform adoption
• Build streaming and batch pipelines using Apache Flink, Kafka, Iceberg, and DynamoDB on AWS
• Work with Flink SQL and Python/PyFlink
• Troubleshoot pipeline and batch processing issues
• Promote data engineering best practices across the platform
• Bridge between teams and divisions; support engineers via pairing, code reviews, and guidance
• Own technical initiatives and drive them end-to-end

Requirements

• Strong background in Data Engineering on large-scale data platforms and big data workloads
• Hands-on experience with stream processing and event-driven architectures
• Strong understanding of schema management
• Strong experience with both batch and streaming data processing (streaming is a key strength)
• Practical AWS experience
• Experience with Kafka and Iceberg and/or DynamoDB, plus core AWS services
• Apache Flink experience, particularly Flink SQL and/or PyFlink
• Ability to ramp up quickly on new technologies
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Confidence working directly with product and engineering teams
• Experience at Lead Engineer / Senior Engineer level; ability to set technical direction and own work end-to-end
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Fluent English (written and spoken)
