Description

You will lead a two-phase engagement: (1) audit and upgrade a Drupal 8 site to Drupal 10/11 with strict SEO preservation, then (2) build platform features on Drupal 10/11 including listings, member profiles, role-based access, interactive map search, and subscription-driven memberships.

You’ll scope your own work, make technical decisions independently, and deliver against a defined phased release rather than an open-ended wishlist.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full audit of the current Drupal 8 site (contributed modules, custom code, theme, and content model)

• Recommend and justify an upgrade path (sequential core upgrades vs. migrating content into a fresh Drupal 10/11 build)

• Refactor custom modules and themes for Drupal 10/11 compatibility

• Preserve SEO: maintain URL patterns or implement 301 redirects, keep metadata/structured data intact, ensure sitemap continuity, and prevent indexability regressions

• Set up staging with a full content copy and run an upgrade dry-run before production cutover

• Build custom content types for listings and member profiles

• Implement role-based access for multiple user types and free/paid tiers

• Create search and filtering with an interactive map (Views + Search API; Google Maps or Mapbox)

• Integrate Stripe for recurring subscription billing and membership lifecycle flows

• Build member dashboards including saved searches, email alerts, and favorites

• Implement registration, login, and profile management

• Apply security hardening: rate limiting, input sanitization, SSL, and GDPR compliance

• Work from a detailed phased scope with wireframes and process flows shared at interview stage

Requirements

• Hands-on experience upgrading Drupal 8 sites to Drupal 10/11

• Strong Drupal 10/11 module and theme refactoring experience

• Ability to preserve SEO during upgrades (URL patterns/301 redirects, metadata, structured data, sitemap continuity, no indexability regressions)

• Experience building listings and membership functionality on Drupal using Views and Search API with map integration

• Experience implementing role-based access for multiple user tiers

• Experience integrating Stripe recurring subscription billing

• Fluent English (speaking and writing)

• Ability to work remotely, scope your own work, and make independent technical decisions
