Description

You will lead and structure a technical Mainframe assessment to create transparency about applications, dependencies, and risks in a business-critical IBM Mainframe landscape. Based on analysis—covering Assembler modules, JCL and batch job chains, and CICS/DB2 interfaces—you will secure critical knowledge and derive recommendations plus a future operating and support model and a strategic roadmap with management-ready materials.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a Mainframe assessment (technical and methodological)

  • Analyze the current IBM Mainframe landscape (Assembler, z/OS, JCL, CICS, DB2)

  • Evaluate existing Assembler modules and undocumented/critical routines

  • Analyze JCL and batch job chains, and identify technical dependencies

  • Identify single points of failure, knowledge concentrations, and operational risks

  • Facilitate deep-dive technical workshops and expert interviews

  • Consolidate and structure findings

  • Provide recommendations for stabilization, knowledge transfer, and future operations

  • Advise on continued operation, modernization, or migration

  • Contribute to defining the support model, roles/responsibilities, SLA, and governance

  • Develop a robust roadmap and audience-tailored management presentations

  • Collaborate with technical specialists, application owners, IT management, and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • Long-term IBM Mainframe experience

  • Excellent practical knowledge of Assembler and z/OS

  • Solid experience with JCL, CICS, and DB2

  • Good knowledge of COBOL or PL/1 (advantage)

  • Experience with legacy/Mainframe application assessment, dependency mapping, and risk assessment

  • Experience with operations/support/application management models

  • Demonstrated experience as Technical Lead, Architect, Engagement Lead, or Senior Consultant

  • Strong workshop moderation and presentation skills

  • Ability to present technical topics clearly for IT management and decision-makers

  • Structured, analytical, and independent way of working

  • Insurance domain experience is a clear advantage

  • Very good German language skills
