Description

Lead a team of Controls Engineers responsible for designing and building automation and robotic equipment for cell manufacturing. You will manage controls architecture and engineering across mixing, coating, calendering, slitting, and related material flow and optimization at mass-production scale, from development through commissioning and scaling.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a high-performing, diverse team of Controls Engineers
  • Support hiring and selection of Controls Engineers
  • Train and review team members across controls architecture, mechanical automation, robots systems, electromechanical design, PLC code, motion controls, HMI/SCADA, and 3D vision systems
  • Handle day-to-day people and operational management (performance reviews, time off, HR coordination, resource capacity)
  • Report development status, quality, and system performance to management
  • Program and debug structured text and ladder logic on Beckhoff TwinCAT and Siemens TIA Portal platforms
  • Develop maintainable, reusable, well-documented control code
  • Set up and tune servo drives and VFDs (Beckhoff, Siemens, SEW)
  • Design and implement reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and manufacturing equipment per codes and standards
  • Contribute to initial equipment conceptual development, balancing specifications, process needs, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time

Requirements

  • 5+ years of proven project management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Beckhoff or Siemens controls systems
  • Proficient Structured Text (IEC 61131-3)
  • Engineering degree (or equivalent experience in relevant controls/automation fields)
  • 6+ years of experience as a Controls, Automation, or Robotics Engineer on industrial automation systems
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and safety standards
  • Experience designing and maintaining PLC code structure
  • Ability to program state machines for complex processes (multi-station parallel processing, pick-and-place, data acquisition, PID control)
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery
  • Ability to select circuit protectors, wire/cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD, and servo systems
