Quick Facts

Role: Product Design Engineer

Focus: Mechanical design for new consumer devices, from ideation to prototypes and production-ready designs

Description

As a Product Design Engineer, you will work at the intersection of creativity, engineering, and design to develop devices that redefine how people interact with technology. You will collaborate with industrial designers, hardware engineers, and interaction designers to transform ideas into functional prototypes and production-ready designs.

You will help solve complex mechanical challenges using 3D CAD modeling, hands-on prototyping, engineering analysis, and design validation—driving designs from early concepts toward production. You will take ownership of meaningful engineering work while learning from an experienced, multidisciplinary team.

What You Might Do

  • Design mechanical parts, components, and assemblies for new consumer devices using 3D CAD (NX)
  • Create detailed 2D engineering drawings, define specifications and tolerances, and work with overseas vendor partners to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Design and run experiments, applying engineering analysis and test results to guide design decisions
  • Evaluate materials, manufacturing processes, and design tradeoffs to develop robust and scalable solutions
  • Work cross-functionally with hardware, software, industrial design, and other engineering teams to bring concepts from ideation through development
  • Conceptualize, design, and build prototypes that quickly validate ideas
  • Participate in design reviews and clearly communicate design decisions, technical analysis, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Build, test, troubleshoot, and iterate prototypes to identify issues and improve product performance, reliability, and user experience
  • Work with manufacturing and vendor partners to iterate designs and support the transition from prototype to production

Essential Qualifications

  • Recently completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Product Design Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Experience using 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred) to design mechanical components and assemblies
  • Hands-on experience building, prototyping, and testing mechanical designs
  • Strong understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to open-ended design challenges
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and present work effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary product development environment

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing consumer products through internships, academic projects, research, personal projects, or professional experience
  • Knowledge of a variety of materials and scalable manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, machining, sheet metal, casting, additive manufacturing)
  • Experience with machine tools and prototyping equipment (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, mills, lathes)
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • Experience designing and executing mechanical tests or experiments and analyzing resulting data
  • Exposure to working with suppliers, manufacturers, or fabrication partners
  • Experience or interest in industrial design, human interaction design, or graphic design

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Long term/short term disability insurance
  • Employee assistance program
  • Flexible spending account
  • Life insurance
  • Generous time off policies including 4-12 weeks fully paid parental leave (based on tenure) and 11 paid holidays
  • Additional flexible paid vacation and sick leave

Salary Range

$107,400–$155,700. Final salary offered is based upon multiple factors including education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
