Description

Lead Slack’s accessibility strategy and execution while partnering with Product and Design to ensure UX patterns are accessible and usable by everyone, including users relying on screen readers and keyboard navigation. Own and evolve Slack Kit, Slack’s design system and component library, and help set technical direction for major frontend engineering initiatives such as modernizing Slack’s CSS architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Slack’s accessibility strategy with Product and Design counterparts; partner across Slack to ensure new and existing UX patterns meet a high bar for accessibility and usability.
  • Own and continually evolve Slack Kit (design system and component library) to deliver a consistent end-user experience and enable designers and engineers to build product features quickly and consistently.
  • Help set technical direction and facilitate execution for major frontend engineering initiatives (e.g., modernizing Slack’s CSS architecture).
  • With IC leads, develop clear roadmaps and milestones to enable execution for multi-quarter projects.
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and seek out growth opportunities for the team to continually level up technically and grow careers.
  • Build a sustainable high-performing team and a work environment that is supportive and challenging.

Requirements

  • 3+ years leading software engineering teams.
  • Previous experience as a Senior+ Frontend Software Engineer.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and time management skills.
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, and leading engineers.
  • Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and product management to understand requirements and describe software product features and technical designs.
  • Understanding of how and where AI software development tooling can be deployed for maximum team impact.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with design systems and/or UI component libraries.
  • Experience championing the needs of people or use cases outside your own lived experience or day-to-day work.
