Description

Administer and maintain a Checkmk Enterprise monitoring environment, ensuring stability and performance. Manage monitoring configuration (hosts, services, rules, folders, contact groups, site configurations, alert thresholds, notification rules), validate discovery consistency, develop custom checks and agent plugins using Python/Shell/PowerShell, and design dashboards for system health, availability, and critical alerts. Plan and execute Checkmk upgrades, patches, and agent updates with validation, handle service requests and incident tickets, and contribute to process improvements and a scalable global monitoring architecture.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain the Checkmk Enterprise environment
• Manage hosts, services, rules, folders, contact groups, site configurations, alert thresholds, and notification rules
• Validate host and service discovery processes
• Develop and maintain custom monitoring checks and agent plugins (Python or Shell) to integrate customer-specific requirements and non-standard applications
• Design and maintain dashboards for system health, availability, and critical alerts
• Plan and execute Checkmk upgrades, patches, agent updates, and validation (including optional Linux OS maintenance)
• Handle service requests and incident tickets
• Actively contribute to IT landscape development and process improvements
• Serve as key point of contact for Professional and Junior System Engineers (coaching/knowledge sharing)
• Own the design and scalability of global monitoring architecture for high availability and performance
• Collaborate with departments as consultant to translate business requirements into measurable technical metrics and create dashboards
• Continuously evaluate monitoring and observability technologies (e.g., AIOps, cloud monitoring)

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience administering Checkmk Enterprise/Professional in production
• Experience configuring hosts, services, rules, folders, contact groups, and monitoring sites
• Solid Linux administration skills (RHEL, Rocky Linux, Debian)
• Practical experience operating and troubleshooting Linux servers hosting Checkmk
• Strong expertise developing monitoring checks and plugins using Python, Shell, and PowerShell
• Experience with log analysis, service management, and troubleshooting storage, memory, and process-related issues
• Solid understanding of monitoring concepts: availability, performance monitoring, thresholds, SLAs
• Relevant certifications are an advantage
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; resolve complex issues efficiently and sustainably
• Strong teamwork and customer service orientation
• Proactive and transparent communication
• Very good written and spoken English skills
