Senior Unix Server Support Specialist

We are looking for a Senior Server Support Specialist to improve server support. The role works with a team of more than a dozen employees and external consultants to drive the Bank’s server support.

The position collaborates closely with the Server Engineering team across governance, security, architecture, and design, as well as with an external company performing most daily support operations. The focus is on reducing the number and duration of major incidents, optimizing resources including people, servers, and licenses, and improving support for IT operations and development teams.

Must-have knowledge and experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience managing at least several hundred Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Unix servers in enterprise environments
• Practical experience with management and deployment tools, specifically Red Hat Satellite
• Strong understanding of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies and compute operations, focused on automation, analysis, modification, and testing of cloud services
• Ability to design, build, implement, and maintain automation, such as Ansible and Terraform, to optimize GCP cloud spend, identify and remediate security risks, and maintain platform compliance
• Experience identifying, verifying, and remediating inconsistent configurations across hybrid-cloud environments
• Familiarity with modern management and monitoring tools for Red Hat/Unix ecosystems and GCP infrastructure
• Strong daily server-management skills, including diagnosing and troubleshooting Red Hat/Unix issues, responding to major incidents, rapidly restoring services, and providing technical consultation to other units
• Ability to plan and control IT operations: define, create, and maintain standard operating procedures; ensure compliance with Engineering and Cybersecurity policies; and perform patching, upgrades, hardening, and monitoring
• English proficiency, spoken and written, at least B2 level
• Previous experience in a financial institution or highly regulated environment is a strong asset

Nice-to-have knowledge and experience

• Experience managing Solaris, AIX, or IBMi Unix operating systems
• Practical experience supporting VMs in a VMware environment
