Director of Platform Engineering

As Director of Engineering for the future Base Platform Infrastructure, you will set the strategic technical direction and lead engineering execution of the foundational platform underpinning the product strategy and roadmap. The platform encompasses Kubernetes, networking, persistence, and middleware technologies used by engineering teams to build and operate products.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role. You will own technical decisions defining platform reliability, scalability, and security, and lead Platform and Software Engineers to build and operate the platform at enterprise scale. As the most senior technical voice for the base platform, you will design solutions, review code, and raise the engineering bar across the team.

Technical Leadership and Strategic Direction

• Define and own the strategic technical direction of the base platform, making principled decisions on platform design, tooling selection, and engineering patterns.
• Define and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and quality gates across the infrastructure codebase.
• Lead the design and implementation of core platform components, including Kubernetes cluster configuration, network topology, storage and persistence layers, and middleware systems.
• Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps practices, ensuring the platform is fully automated, reproducible, and auditable.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and approaches and make evidence-based recommendations on adoption.
• Ensure resilience, observability, operability, and security by design.

Platform Reliability and Operational Excellence

• Own the reliability, performance, and security posture of the base platform end-to-end.
• Define and uphold platform SLOs and SLIs, continuously improving platform health.
• Drive incident-management and on-call practices to ensure effective response to and learning from production issues.
• Deliver platform changes safely through robust CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and progressive rollout strategies.
• Champion observability through logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.

Technical Communication and Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Clearly articulate technical strategy, engineering decisions, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineering leaders to ensure the base platform meets the needs of teams building on it.
• Provide accurate technical input on feasibility, complexity, and delivery confidence while protecting engineering quality.
• Surface technical risks and platform limitations early, with well-reasoned proposals to address them.

Required Qualifications and Expertise

• B.Sc. degree, preferably in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative field.
• Substantive hands-on engineering experience designing and operating cloud-native or cloud-migrated platforms, including operational, security, reliability, and cost engineering ownership.
• Expert Kubernetes engineering experience, including cluster architecture, ecosystem tooling, deployment patterns, autoscaling, and operational reliability at scale.
• Strong hands-on experience with public cloud platforms—AWS preferred; Azure or GCP accepted—and core compute, storage, networking, and database services.
• Deep command of GitOps principles, continuous-deployment toolchains, Infrastructure as Code, Git, Terraform, and CI/CD pipeline frameworks.

• Make high-impact, data-driven technical decisions and communicate them clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Constructively mediate technical disagreements under ambiguity and pressure.
• Lead effectively in a fast-paced environment while balancing and prioritising competing technical priorities, maintaining technical rigour and strategic focus.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual base salary range: zł445,200.00–zł563,025.00 for a full-time schedule, with potential progression based on sustained performance and success in the role.
• May be eligible for variable compensation, such as a performance bonus or commission-based plan, and a long-term incentive.
