Tech Lead, Platform Reliability Engineering

Senior • On-site

348,000 - 504,000 PLN/yr

Warsaw, MZ, Poland

We’re looking for a Tech Lead to own technical direction for a Platform Reliability Engineering team. This role is for someone who thrives as a technical leader without taking on people management.

Tech Leads own technical execution, architecture, and long-term engineering strategy. You’ll lead complex projects, make key technical decisions, set the standard for engineering quality, guide individual contributors through technical design and project leadership, and partner with teams across the company. An Engineering Manager handles people leadership; you own the technical direction.

The team builds core platform systems such as load shedding, rate limiting, circuit breakers, and traffic controls that protect the platform under real-world load. This is hands-on work: you’ll spend significant time designing and building systems alongside the team, while partnering with other platform teams to make reliability built in rather than bolted on.

Tech Stack

  • AWS
  • Kubernetes (EKS)
  • MySQL (RDS)
  • OpenSearch
  • DynamoDB
  • Redis
  • Terraform
  • Datadog
  • TypeScript
  • Scala
  • Go
  • Python

The role is especially suited to people who think like backend engineers and focus on failure modes, capacity planning, and systems that degrade gracefully under pressure.

This role follows an office-centric hybrid schedule, with standard in-office days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most employees may work from home on Wednesdays; Friday remote-work arrangements depend on the type of work.

What You’ll Achieve

  • Set technical direction for the team, ensuring the right problems are solved in the right way.
  • Design and build core platform systems—including load shedding, circuit breakers, and rate limiting—that protect the platform at scale.
  • Own critical platform concerns such as ingress and egress, shaping how traffic flows through systems.
  • Define stable interfaces and libraries that other platform teams build on.
  • Lead end-to-end projects from scoping and design through rollout, working across multiple platform teams.
  • Raise the bar for technical quality through code reviews, design discussions, and technical mentorship.
  • Partner with infrastructure teams to embed reliability into the architecture as a core design constraint.
  • Debug difficult problems across the stack and prevent recurrence of critical failures.

About You

  • Strong software engineering background; comfortable writing production code and designing systems. Go, Python, Scala, and TypeScript are used, though engineering fundamentals matter more than specific language experience.
  • 8+ years of experience building and operating backend systems at scale.
  • Experience leading technical projects and influencing direction across teams.
  • Ability to improve the work of others through clarity, feedback, and high technical standards without formal authority.
  • Familiarity with distributed-systems patterns, including backpressure, graceful degradation, and capacity planning.
  • Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Terraform, and monitoring tooling such as Datadog.
  • Experience defining and working within explicit reliability and performance targets for production systems.
  • Clear communicator and strong collaborator, comfortable navigating trade-offs with platform and infrastructure teams.
  • Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with willingness to learn and use them to improve productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.

This is a software engineering role. A background primarily in scripting, dashboards, or operational playbooks is unlikely to be a fit.

Why This Role?

  • Build reliability as a first-class feature rather than patching issues after the fact.
  • Own foundational systems for load shedding, traffic management, and ingress/egress.
  • Provide technical leadership without people-management overhead.
  • Collaborate closely with infrastructure teams across locations within reasonable working hours.
  • Grow through deeper technical ownership, broader architectural influence, and mentoring opportunities.

Success means shipping systems that other teams rely on by default because they make the platform safer.

What We Offer

  • Generous, transparent, and fair compensation, including base salary and Restricted Stock Units.
  • Contract of Employment, with 50% tax-deductible costs for author’s-rights usage for engineers.
  • Health insurance with dental and travel coverage.
  • Lunch catering on office days.
  • Career growth budget.
  • Home office setup budget.
  • Gym/fitness card.
  • Fertility healthcare and family-forming support.
  • Mental health support.
  • Group life insurance.
  • Holiday allowance.
  • MacBook and necessary accessories.

Estimated base salary: 29,000–42,000 PLN gross per month. Actual base salary depends on factors and qualifications assessed during the interview process. Total compensation consists of base salary and equity (RSUs).
