  • Evaluate new applications against business functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Evaluate new initiatives and evolving business requirements; recommend appropriate alternatives or enhancements to current business solutions and systems.
  • Prepare communications and deliver business presentations on business solutions, system enhancements, and alternatives.

General Description

Acts as the key interface between business stakeholders and IT teams.

Understands the business drivers behind operational, functional, tactical, or strategic initiatives and changes, and the value they bring to the organization. Provides expert business advice and counsel to define business IT solutions for IT clients.

Leads requirements and process analysis for business cases and delivers options for viable business solutions.

Demonstrates understanding of the external market and internal clients, leveraging this knowledge to propose solutions that meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary interface between IT teams and specific business or functional areas.
  • May lead business scope definition for projects, working with sponsors or customers to determine proposal strategy and assess feasibility. For some roadmaps, Product Business Analysts perform this role, with the Business Consultancy Authority providing support and validating outcomes.
  • Understand and assess client business operations; identify issues and opportunities; and recommend appropriate business solutions.
  • Translate business requirements and processes into structured requirements documentation, including HLBR and DBR, that meets client constraints and objectives.
  • Elicit business functional and non-functional requirements and create business process diagrams using enterprise-standard methodologies.
  • Facilitate implementation and deployment of system changes for internal and external stakeholders, providing support, advice, and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Safeguard the project business scope on behalf of the sponsor; highlight and control deviations through the Change Request process.
  • Support IT colleagues throughout project development, including testing and deployment.
  • Apply strong knowledge of company business operations, analytical capability, and understanding of IT development and implementation processes gained through more than one significant business change project.
  • Apply requirements elicitation and business analysis techniques and methodologies; identify and use best practices in personal analysis work and in leading the analysis of others.
  • May lead a small team of business analysts working on business cases or project analysis.
  • Contribute to business case development and perform risk and impact analysis, engaging a broad range of business and IT stakeholders.
  • Persuade senior managers of the benefits of change in situations involving resistance and likely business disruption.
  • Work at a high level using experience in a specific functional business environment and related IT systems.
  • Focus primarily on business requirements and process analysis and on implementing changes to existing business processes and related IT solutions; also support business case development and new initiatives.
