Description

This is an embedded role within a product-engineering team. You will own the quality strategy with the team, report to the team’s Engineering Manager, and collaborate with a community of Engineers in Test who share tooling, patterns, and practices across the engineering organisation. The whole team owns quality; you will support the team and build shared tooling rather than act as the sole release gatekeeper.

What you’ll drive

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, robust automated test suites across unit, integration, API, end-to-end, regression, and performance layers.
  • Build and evolve internal test automation frameworks, libraries, and shared utilities that improve coverage, speed, and reliability across the engineering organisation.
  • Integrate automated tests into GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, reliable feedback loops and frequent production deployments.
  • Introduce and grow contract testing between services to make cross-service refactors safer.
  • Use production observability from Sentry, Grafana, and ELK as a quality signal, connecting live system behaviour with test coverage.
  • Collaborate with the security team on testing sensitive and regulated flows.
  • Develop and execute performance, load, and stress tests with k6 to validate behaviour under expected and peak conditions and identify bottlenecks before production.
  • Partner with developers and product managers to define test strategies for new features and services, identify risks, and recommend appropriate test approaches.
  • Analyse test failures and production incidents to identify root causes, improve coverage gaps, and implement long-term preventive measures that reduce regression risk.
  • Apply AI-assisted tooling to test generation, exploratory testing, and test data, using existing tools and experimenting with new ones.

What you can expect

  • Opportunity to build high-leverage features and tooling for core business domains that directly impact the travel experience for millions of users.
  • Culture promoting good engineering practices, high-quality code, and continuous improvement.
  • Daily production deployments for fast impact and iterative development.
  • Access to a modern technology stack across multiple functional areas:
    • Backend: Ruby/Rails, Golang, Python
    • Frontend: React, JavaScript, TypeScript
    • Databases: PostgreSQL
    • Infrastructure: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes
    • Monitoring: ELK/Grafana, Sentry, GitHub Actions CI/CD
    • Testing: Bruno (API), Playwright (E2E), k6 (performance)

What sets you apart

  • 3+ years of professional experience as a Developer in Test, Engineer in Test, or SDET at mid or senior level.
  • Strong coding skills in at least one major programming language. Ruby/Rails, JavaScript, and TypeScript are preferred but not mandatory; ability to write clean, maintainable, well-documented code.
  • Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks and tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar. Playwright is preferred.
  • Experience testing RESTful APIs with Bruno, Postman, or similar tools.
  • Experience with contract testing between services using Pact or similar.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD platforms, including GitHub Actions, and integrating automated test suites into build pipelines.
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools in testing workflows, or genuine eagerness to learn and experiment with them.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing flaky tests, race conditions, and complex integration issues.
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Ownership of delivered solutions: ship, monitor, and fix them.
  • Clear, effective communication and cross-functional collaboration in an agile environment.
  • Strong written and spoken English.

Benefits

  • Daily deployments, allowing code to reach millions of users quickly.
  • High-trust environment with autonomy.
  • Learning days, personal development plans, workshops, mentorship, and language classes.
  • Private healthcare, wellness budget, travel stipend, gym or transport subsidy, free access to AirHelp services, and more.
