Job Description
As a Level Designer, you will be responsible for designing and building gameplay locations, scripting, iterating, and optimizing levels and quests in an open-world game. You will work on open-world systems such as population, encounters, and other mechanics that create engaging gameplay for many players.
Your daily tasks
- Co-create and transform the project vision into a playable environment.
- Implement and adapt game mechanics to spaces, including enemy AI, combat systems, and player interactions.
- Create and populate open-world gameplay elements such as encounters, activities, population, and AI life.
- Collaborate closely with specialists in art, programming, design, audio, animation, and other disciplines.
- Test levels for bugs, gameplay issues, and overall player experience; gather and apply feedback to improve levels and gameplay.
- Create and maintain documentation for your levels and gameplay.
Qualifications
- Passion for making games.
- At least 3 years of game creation experience as a Level Designer, or one published AAA project.
- Ability to design and create engaging, understandable game environments with varied gameplay that are visually credible.
- Good knowledge of any editor, including Unity, Unreal, RedKit, CryEngine, RoadHog, or proprietary DevTools.
- Understanding of indirect player guidance and how to lead players to intended objectives.
- Good judgment of what plays well versus what may frustrate players.
- Readiness to develop level-design technology and engine capabilities.
- Willingness to collaborate, share knowledge, exchange experience, and think outside the box.
- Good English skills.
Nice to have
- Quest Designer experience.
- Basic architecture knowledge.
- Artistic skills such as drawing, painting, or modeling.
