Position Summary
The Workflow Specialist is responsible for the design, configuration, analysis, support, and continuous improvement of workflow-enabled business processes within the Navy ERP+ environment. This role works closely with business stakeholders, functional consultants, developers, and technical teams to ensure workflow solutions support mission requirements, improve operational efficiency, and maintain compliance with Navy and DoD business processes.
The Workflow Specialist supports both sustainment and modernization initiatives by analyzing business processes, identifying automation opportunities, configuring workflow solutions, and ensuring workflow functionality aligns with enterprise architecture and governance standards. The position serves as a subject matter expert for workflow design, routing, approvals, notifications, and business process automation across Navy ERP+.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Workflow Analysis and Design
- Analyze business processes and identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and improve workflow execution.
- Gather and document workflow requirements from business stakeholders, functional teams, and program leadership.
- Design workflow solutions that support operational, financial, logistics, acquisition, and personnel processes within Navy ERP+.
- Develop workflow process maps, business rules, routing logic, approval chains, and exception handling procedures.
Workflow Configuration and Administration
- Configure, maintain, and support workflow functionality within SAP and related enterprise applications.
- Create and maintain workflow templates, approval structures, task assignments, notifications, and escalation processes.
- Support organizational structure alignment and workflow routing based on business requirements.
- Monitor workflow performance and ensure proper execution of automated business processes.
Business Process Improvement
- Evaluate existing workflows and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency, accountability, and user experience.
- Identify process bottlenecks and implement workflow solutions to reduce manual effort and improve processing times.
- Support modernization initiatives involving process automation, digital workflows, and enterprise transformation efforts.
- Assist with implementation of best practices for workflow governance and process standardization.
Testing and Deployment Support
- Develop workflow test scenarios and support unit, integration, and user acceptance testing activities.
- Validate workflow functionality and ensure business requirements are met prior to deployment.
- Support release management activities and transition workflow enhancements into production environments.
- Assist with issue resolution during deployments and post-implementation support periods.
User Support and Training
- Provide workflow-related support for incidents, service requests, and user inquiries.
- Develop user guides, process documentation, and training materials.
- Conduct training sessions and knowledge transfer activities for users and support teams.
- Support change management activities associated with workflow implementations and enhancements.
Governance and Compliance
- Ensure workflow solutions comply with Navy ERP+, DoD, and organizational governance requirements.
- Support audit activities by providing workflow documentation, approval histories, and process traceability.
- Maintain workflow documentation and configuration records.
- Ensure workflow designs align with security, segregation of duties, and internal control requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with functional teams supporting Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement, Human Resources, and other business domains.
- Work closely with developers, Basis administrators, security teams, and integration teams to support workflow-enabled solutions.
- Participate in modernization efforts involving SAP S/4HANA, Fiori, business process automation, and enterprise transformation initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Active DoD security clearance with T5 investigation.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience supporting workflow design, business process automation, or enterprise business process management solutions.
- Experience working with SAP workflow technologies or comparable enterprise workflow platforms.
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into workflow solutions.
- Strong understanding of business process analysis and process improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications in production environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting SAP ERP, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Business Workflow, SAP Fiori Workflow, or SAP Business Process Management solutions.

Working within an SAP S/4HANA on-premise environment, this developer builds and maintains ABAP enhancements, BAdIs, custom reports, interfaces, and data migration programs for SAP PM objects. A critical workstream includes the technical evaluation and potential integration or replacement of legacy tool management or EAM systems with SAP PM, requiring both strong ABAP expertise and a deep understanding of SAP PM data structures, including equipment, counters, classification, and task lists. The developer works closely with the functional team to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.
