Wire Harness Design Engineer

We are seeking a Wire Harness Design Engineer to support the design and development of fire suppression systems for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role will be responsible for creating complete 3D models and 2D production drawings for fire suppression system wire harnesses, integrating off-the-shelf equipment, and supporting the release of manufacturing-ready engineering documentation. The engineer will develop complete 3D harness designs and manufacturing documentation, working closely with Integration Engineers and Mechanical Engineering Team Leads to deliver production-ready harness solutions that support procurement, manufacturing, quality control, assembly, and field deployment.
Responsibilities
- Develop complete 3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks for fire suppression systems deployed within BESS installations.
- Create harness routing and integration solutions for:
- Harness pass-throughs within enclosures
- Internal harness mounting provisions
- Off-the-shelf HVAC system interfaces
- Actuated valves and release modules
- Temperature detectors, horns, and manual release assemblies
- Develop complete 3D harness definitions and associated manufacturing documentation.
- Ensure proper packaging, serviceability, and manufacturability of harness designs.
- Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of experience designing electrical wire harnesses for industrial equipment, energy systems, automotive, aerospace, or heavy equipment applications.
- Proficiency using Zuken harness design software.
- Experience creating:
- Harness schematics
- Harness drawings
- Connector definitions
- Bill of materials
- Manufacturing documentation
- Experience with harness routing, packaging, and integration into mechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with connectors, terminals, backshells, cable protection, and harness retention methods.
