Quick Facts

  • Role: Senior Electrical Harness Engineer (Electrical Low Voltage)
  • Focus: End-to-end design and integration of wire harnesses for autonomous vehicles
  • Key tools: CATIA V5/V6 and Siemens Capital Harness

Description

Own the end-to-end electrical low-voltage wire harness design for autonomous vehicles, from concept and prototype builds through production launch. Define harness routing and 3D packaging in CATIA, create and release 2D manufacturing drawings and wire lists in Capital Harness, and translate electrical schematics into manufacturing-ready drawings and interfaces. Work with suppliers and the assembly plant to troubleshoot issues, resolve technical challenges (EMI, thermal protection, chafe/abrasion, sealing), and continuously improve harness engineering processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own assigned harness families end to end: concept → drawing release → prototype builds → production launch
  • Define and own harness routing and 3D packaging optimized for mass, cost, packaging space, serviceability, and assembly
  • Create and release 2D harness manufacturing drawings and wire lists; read schematics and provide feedback to electrical architecture
  • Select and validate clips, connectors, terminals, seals, and wire; size circuits for power consumption, voltage drop, and fuse protection
  • Resolve technical issues including EMI, thermal protection, chafe/abrasion, mechanical strain, and environmental sealing; define protection/retention/clipping strategies
  • Lead packaging and design reviews; develop and execute Design Verification and DFM; contribute to DFMEA
  • Work independently with harness suppliers through design reviews, production readiness, and change implementation
  • Support early prototype/pilot builds at the assembly plant; troubleshoot build and vehicle issues and drive manufacturing integration fixes
  • Collaborate with electrical architecture, mechanical/packaging, manufacturing, and quality to align harness design with vehicle requirements
  • Develop and improve engineering processes for device transmittals, schematics, and 3D harness routing, including design guidelines and component libraries

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electromechanical Engineering
  • 8+ years of wire harness/EDS design experience, preferably in automotive (aerospace/heavy truck acceptable)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD for harness routing and packaging, preferably CATIA V5 or V6 (3DEXPERIENCE)
  • Experience with 2D harness design software, preferably Siemens Capital Harness
  • Ability to translate electrical schematics into 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D harness routing (connector/terminal selection, wire sizing, power consumption, interfaces)
  • Experience selecting and validating harness components (clips, wires, terminals, seals, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of automotive low-voltage power distribution architectures and EE communication (CAN, LIN)
  • Hands-on experience supporting vehicle development and industrialization from prototype through production launch
  • Experience working directly with harness suppliers on design reviews and production readiness
