Quick Facts

  • Internship: Full-time, 12 weeks
  • Team: Safety Strategy & Operations
  • Focus: Agentic AI workflows and safety decision-support tools

Description

Work on internal AI tools that help safety operators and analysts make faster, more consistent, data-driven safety decisions. You will develop agentic workflows and AI-assisted tools, validate reliability and failure modes of LLM-based decision aids, and integrate AI agents with structured safety databases and operational logs. You’ll collaborate with safety strategists and software engineers to test prototypes in operational scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and implement agentic workflows and AI-powered decision tools for safety evaluations and triage of operational signals
  • Characterize LLM/AI workflow edge cases and failure modes to ensure decision aids meet safety-critical reliability thresholds
  • Integrate generative AI agents with safety databases and operational logs for real-time synthesis and risk reporting
  • Test prototypes with safety and software teams in operational scenarios and iterate based on user feedback

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Master’s (or advanced) degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Data Science, or related engineering
  • Good academic standing and enrolled at an accredited college/university throughout the internship
  • Graduation expected between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028
  • Availability for a full-time, 12-week internship
  • Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California, for the duration of the internship

Benefits

  • Monthly salary range: $5,500–$9,500 (varies by geographic location and level of education)
  • Medical insurance
  • Housing stipend (relocation assistance offered based on eligibility)

Technical Qualifications

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals in Python and object-oriented programming
  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying AI tools, LLM APIs, and agentic workflows (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, Claude/Cursor environments)
  • Critical understanding of limitations, hallucinations, and verification methods for AI in decision-making contexts
  • Experience building prototypes, APIs, or internal web dashboards (e.g., Streamlit, FastAPI, or Flask)
  • Strong analytical problem-solving and clear written/verbal technical communication

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience applying AI/ML to autonomous systems, safety analytics, or risk management
  • Experience designing evaluation harnesses to benchmark generative AI and prompt performance
  • Familiarity with database architectures (SQL/NoSQL) and data warehousing platforms
