Description

Build and maintain data flows behind accounting and tax processes, from subsidiary ledger and client tax declarations to finance reporting. Design scalable data pipelines, migrate the platform to Databricks (lakehouse), modernize database solutions, and create a Python service exposing tax data via REST API and a web UI.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines feeding accounting and tax systems using SQL, Python, dbt, and Apache Spark / PySpark
• Migrate the existing data platform to Databricks lakehouse, including rewriting legacy MS SQL Server stored procedures into Spark / Databricks SQL
• Build and maintain a Python data service providing tax data via a REST API and web UI (from data model through API design to deployment)
• Work with raw data and design methods for integrating it into the data platform
• Develop CI/CD pipelines for data engineering solutions
• Create and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related software engineering role
• Strong Python for clean, testable production backend code, including REST API services (FastAPI / Flask or similar)
• Advanced SQL (query optimization on large datasets) and practical experience with T-SQL / MS SQL Server, including reading and reasoning about legacy stored procedures
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark (PySpark)
• Experience with dbt: models, tests, macros, layered warehouse design
• Strong understanding of data warehouse design principles and data modeling
• Practical knowledge of ETL/ELT processes
• Experience analyzing legacy code and migrating it to newer technology
• Familiarity with data quality, monitoring, and pipeline reliability
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster, or similar)
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline building and maintenance principles
• Understanding of REST standards for system integration
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail; ability to work under a hard monthly accounting close deadline
• Effective communication and collaboration with engineers and non-technical stakeholders (finance/accounting)
• Openness to learning and exploring new technologies and methodologies
