Description

You will lead and grow a small Java team responsible for building and evolving a layered monolith ERP/HRM system running on-premise. The role focuses on team management, technical direction across the stack, code reviews, release/quality processes, and close cooperation with business on new features and estimates. You will also help introduce AI-assisted automation into the team’s daily development workflow.

Responsibilities

• Manage the team day-to-day: assign tasks, monitor progress, remove blockers, and run 1:1s with feedback

• Assess team capacity and flag when scope exceeds what the team can handle

• Identify skill gaps, participate in technical candidate evaluation, and onboard new team members

• Define team cadence: sprint length, planning, reviews, and sprint task assignment rules

• Establish and maintain estimation practices for business planning

• Set system development direction across the full stack: choose technologies and architectural solutions

• Maintain and plan technical debt repayment and the technical part of the system roadmap

• Lead code review and define review standards; support and collaborate on the most critical parts

• Help raise the team’s engineering competencies

• Provide technical evaluation for business proposals (feasibility, cost, risk, and impact on the existing system)

• Evaluate external applications the IT department might take over and maintain

• Describe the path from prototype to production solution

• Participate in business discussions on new functionalities and applications

• Identify processes for AI-driven automation and propose ideas to decision-makers

• Lead technical implementation of approved automations and set rules for building AI-assisted solutions

• Improve release and operational continuity: environments, production entry criteria, rollback of failed changes

• Ensure baseline security hygiene: manage access, avoid sensitive data in code, keep key dependencies up to date

• Define and use incident response procedure for production outages

• Maintain documentation for key system components

Requirements

• Experience as Team Lead or Tech Lead with real experience leading a development team

• Very strong Java and Spring Boot knowledge in a production-maintained system (Spring MVC, Data JPA, Spring Security)

• Experience with a complex domain monolith and incrementally organizing/refactoring it

• Relational database knowledge, including MS SQL Server, to assess and improve query performance

• Experience with the frontend layer

• Practical experience with code review and defining team standards

• Experience with automated tests and increasing coverage in existing code

• Knowledge of Docker and on-premise change release process

• Experience with role-based authentication and authorization (Keycloak or another OpenID Connect provider preferred)

• Experience with estimation and discussing it with business

• Ability to communicate feasibility, costs, and risks to non-technical stakeholders

• Independence and ability to establish authority in a team that previously worked without a leader

• Practical experience with AI tools used in developers’ workflows
