Description

You’ll work on a small, cross-functional team to build and scale Apify “Actors” that crawl and extract data reliably under real-world load. The role includes shipping improvements to popular user-facing Actors, creating internal tooling (including AI-powered tools), and mentoring junior engineers. You’ll also reverse-engineer how websites work behind the scenes and design APIs other developers love to use.

Responsibilities

• Build and scale cloud programs (“Actors”) for reliable crawling and data extraction

• Improve popular Actors by adding features and trying new approaches (including AI)

• Develop internal projects and tooling with shared libraries and AI-powered tools

• Write clean, elegant code; maintain quality through reviews and refactoring

• Reverse-engineer website behavior and design developer-friendly APIs

• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and growth support

• Own the design and delivery of Actors and tools so they fit the codebase

Requirements

• Strong in JavaScript and TypeScript (Node.js) with solid understanding of web technologies

• 3+ years professional or open source experience on a non-trivial project with a team

• Commitment to code quality, readability, and frequent refactoring

• Practical experience using AI tools and knowledge of their limits

• Willingness to keep learning, especially in web scraping and beyond

• Strong design sense: can evaluate trade-offs and keep code maintainable as it grows

• Clear communication in English (writing and speaking)
