Description

You will develop and extend backend services and APIs in a multi-platform environment, turning AI-enabled prototypes and engineering requirements into robust, maintainable production software. The backend stack centers on Java 21 with Spring Boot/Quarkus and PostgreSQL, supported by Docker, Linux/Bash, CI/CD, gRPC, Kubernetes, and Azure. You will also build agent-assisted engineering workflows, using coding agents in daily development to automate tasks like testing, refactoring, migrations, documentation, and reviews.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance to customers and support solution finding
• Design and implement backend services and APIs; evolve existing platforms and applications
• Prepare and drive architecture decisions
• Translate technical requirements into reliable, maintainable solutions
• Use coding agents for engineering tasks and build agent-based development workflows
• Automate tests, migrations, and refactorings
• Ensure quality, maintainability, and technical sustainability
• Own solutions end-to-end from idea through production operations
• Break down problems, supply appropriate context to agents, define acceptance criteria, and coordinate agent-led workflows
• Validate results automatically, make technical decisions, and continuously improve the development process

Requirements

• Several years of backend development experience (mid- to senior-level)
• Very strong Java and object-oriented programming knowledge (ideally Java 21)
• Spring Boot and/or Quarkus experience
• Relational database and data modeling expertise, especially PostgreSQL
• Experience with APIs and distributed systems; solid Linux, Docker, and CI/CD knowledge
• Ability to independently design and implement solutions and take architecture responsibility through production operations
• Experience with direct technical exchange with customers or business teams
• Daily use of coding agents or comparable AI tools (ideally 3+ years)
• Degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent practical qualification
• German C1+ and confident professional English
• Regular in-person collaboration in Berlin (minimum two days on-site)
