One-Page Resume. Practical Advices

We often come across cases where an experienced employee sends an extensive, several-page resume. It's no wonder, when you have 10 or 20 years of experience behind you. But is it possible to condense everything on one page, so as to include all the most important information and attract the recruiter's attention?

Let's think about it together. Recruiters suggest that a well-written resume should be as short as possible. Whether you can put everything on one page depends only on you and on the concise presentation of the facts in a clear and legible way for the recipient.

Basically, you should follow only one tip: focus on those experiences that are most important in the job offer you are applying for.

So, in order:

1. Read the description of the job position you are applying for.

2. A one-page resume is not a dogma. If it is necessary, your resume is really impressive, and the projects you have completed require a broader description, you will need to describe them in 2-3 pages.

3. What you need to focus on in particular is the experience that corresponds to the offer.

4. The format is important. If you want to save recruiters from browsing through pages, opt for a columnar layout. You will fit more information there.

5. Choose the types of experience and skills that seem most interesting to you if you were a recruiter. Try to highlight the most recent ones, not those that happened 10 years ago.

6. Be creative. Use charts, graphics, special characters, keywords. A clever infographic can contain more content than a page of information.

7. Use facts and figures. Don't write too much. Be concise and understandable. Emphasize your achievements. Refer to authorities.

8. Use bullet points. Use the language that the market uses. Remove unnecessary information.

9. Reduce the font (but don't overdo it, not everyone wears glasses!) and the size of the margins. Take care of the aesthetics of the presented content.

10. Make a first impression. Condense your skills and achievements into a summary. It may determine whether the recruiter will pay attention to the rest of your resume.
