Oracle Database Architect (Migration & Integration)

Description

You will design the target Oracle architecture with high availability, scalability, and data security. You will lead the database migration from Informix to Oracle, including data mapping, conversion of stored procedures into PL/SQL, and defining a cutover strategy. You will also ensure application integrations with Oracle during and after migration, optimize performance, and mentor the engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Design the target architecture on Oracle with HA, scalability, and data security (RAC, Data Guard, partitioning)
• Analyze existing Informix structures and application logic; map data; convert stored procedures to PL/SQL; define migration approach (big bang vs. coexistence)
• Integrate existing and new applications with Oracle throughout the migration and afterward (REST API, Kafka, Docker, data synchronization during transition)
• Tune performance for demanding database operations, PL/SQL code, and data flows using execution plans, AWR, and indexing strategy
• Define the migration roadmap and technology standards; oversee code and architecture quality
• Mentor developers transitioning to the Oracle stack and translate business requirements into technical designs

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience designing enterprise software and database architecture
• Strong Oracle and PL/SQL knowledge, including PL/SQL design/optimization, query tuning, and work with partitioning and advanced Oracle features
• Practical experience migrating database platforms, including source analysis, data mapping, validation, and cutover
• Experience integrating database solutions into modern architectures (microservices, API management, cloud platforms such as OCI, AWS, or Azure)
• Analytical thinking to foresee bottlenecks and migration risks and propose effective solutions
• Communication skills to defend decisions with management and convey them clearly to developers
