Description

You’ll help autonomous agents reliably discover and use Apify tools by building the Apify MCP Server and integrating the agent behind Apify AI. The work includes hardening a fast-changing MCP protocol, shaping the agent runtime and its tool surface, and creating evals from real production traces to prevent regressions in CI.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the Apify MCP Server so agents can reliably call tools derived from tens of thousands of Actors

• Keep the server ahead of frequent protocol changes (stateless transports, authorization hardening, tool discovery)

• Shape the agent behind Apify AI, including runtime, accessible tools, and edge cases during end-to-end tasks

• Enable autonomous agents to discover and pay for Apify tools

• Build evals that convert production traces into CI tests and measure whether changes improve or worsen the product

Requirements

• 3+ years building real software with backend experience in Node.js/TypeScript or Python

• Experience building something on top of LLMs; understand common issues like wrong tool calls, context ballooning, and confident agent mistakes

• Curious and self-directed; comfortable with loosely defined problems and keeping up with rapid field changes

• Uses the Apify platform or is eager to start and cares about creating usable tools

• Strong English communication skills
