Description

Perform diagnostic procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with scope and standards of practice and organizational policies. Position patients, perform imaging, optimize image quality, and enter/transmit/report study data to physician staff. Advanced echocardiography (e.g., 3D, myocardial mechanics, and other advanced modalities) may be required, and you may travel to satellite locations.

Responsibilities

  • Position patient and perform echocardiography procedures
  • Analyze imaging results, adjust settings for optimal image quality, and document preliminary study data
  • Prepare equipment and supplies; select exposure factors and imaging parameters
  • Apply safety standards and perform quality control procedures on equipment
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and/or report equipment malfunctions; ensure proper working order
  • Review patient history and physician orders
  • Educate patients regarding procedures and equipment to ensure understanding and cooperation
  • Perform advanced diagnostic imaging when applicable (e.g., 3D, myocardial mechanics, mechanical circulatory support devices, transcatheter therapies)
  • Coordinate patient care with the healthcare team
  • When applicable, prepare and administer ultrasound enhancing agents (UEA) and/or medications within scope; monitor patient condition and report changes

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technologist or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program
  • Adult echocardiography: 1 year experience in an IAC accredited institution, or credentialed new grad within 1 year of graduation
  • Pediatric echocardiography: 1 year experience imaging congenital heart defect and surgical repairs in an IAC accredited institution, or new grad within 1 year of graduation
  • Obtain the appropriate echocardiography credential within 6 months of starting (where required)
  • Hold an appropriate echocardiography credential as listed (e.g., RDCS/AE, RCS, ACS, RCCS, and/or pediatric RDCS)
  • BLS certification (AHA) in an acceptable e-card format
