Technical Product Owner

Mid • Remote

40,000 - 80,000 EUR/yr

Munich, BY, Germany

Quick Facts

  • Role: Technical Product Owner (full-time or part-time; hybrid)

Description

The Technical Product Owner serves as the internal technical authority for a public cultural platform. You evaluate vendor proposals and implementation quality, coordinate QA and testing (including security, monitoring, and performance tests), and ensure accessibility and GDPR-aligned architecture. In collaboration with the Product Owner, you shape strategy, feasibility, and technical direction—and later help guide an AI roadmap for recommendations, semantic search, and a chatbot with EU AI Act awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead vendor steering: coordinate multiple external software providers and act as the peer contact for architecture and delivery questions
  • Work closely with the Product Owner to align strategy, feasibility, and roadmap
  • Assess technical offers and guide migration/transition work; coordinate QA and testing
  • Ensure compliance with security requirements (logging, monitoring, penetration and load tests) and accessibility (WCAG 2.2)
  • Support user registration quality assurance together with the Content & Community lead
  • Control: review performance reports, person-days, and invoices vs. offers and contracts to track budget and progress
  • Manage contracts and handovers so they include service quality, documentation, and transfer requirements
  • Contribute to a secure, GDPR-compliant roles and permissions concept
  • Eventually contribute to the AI roadmap (recommendation functions, semantic search, chatbot) with privacy and EU AI Act considerations

Requirements

  • Background in software development; able to read code and assess technical concepts, and build small prototypes/scripts when needed (often AI-assisted)
  • Experience in technical project management or as a software architect, ideally with microservices/API architectures and agile collaboration with external providers
  • Basic understanding of GDPR-compliant system architecture
  • Ability to evaluate technical quality independently and take pragmatic responsibility in a small organization
  • Clear direct communication, including with difficult technical or budget topics, and strong independent prioritization

Benefits

  • Public-interest, free, nonprofit platform that serves the entire state cultural sector
  • Real technical influence on a land-wide platform architecture without excessive organizational bureaucracy
  • Opportunity to help shape an AI roadmap from early on
  • Short decision paths with direct collaboration with leadership and the Product Owner
  • Full-time or part-time (minimum 20 hours), employment or freelance/interim mandate options; mobile work with access to a workspace in Munich
