Description

Directs and coordinates all technical functions related to an assigned family of products and/or major design projects by analyzing feasibility, planning budgets and schedules, driving design development, and verifying performance through testing and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze research data or customer specifications to determine feasibility and propose product specifications
  • Prepare work-plans, cost estimates, project budgets, and schedules; report adherence to schedule, budget, and technical requirements
  • Confer with customer service, product management, and customers to clarify or resolve problems and develop designs
  • Prepare or direct product/system layouts and detailed drawings/schematics; establish new part numbers, bills of material, and configuration rules
  • Direct manufacturing/build of prototype products/systems
  • Plan and develop experimental test programs or direct preparation of analyses to verify design adequacy
  • Analyze test data to determine compliance with functional and performance specifications; prepare/coordinate test reports
  • Understand DFMEA, DFMA, and VAVE principles
  • Participate and drive NPD/NPI projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet targets
  • Prepare or direct instruction manuals, illustrations, and other technical information; support and review marketing materials for technical accuracy
  • Analyze product performance problems and disposition customer returns; recommend solutions to satisfy customer requirements
  • Prepare internal reports or reports for customer distribution
  • Prepare work instructions and department procedures
  • Train on products and procedures within the area of expertise
  • Disposition nonconforming material/products and initiate corrective action
  • Review work performed by subordinates/other engineers for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards
  • Use 3D CAD (Creo) and PLM (Windchill) tools for engineering and design tasks
  • Knowledge of patent and trademark filings

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. in Engineering)
  • 5–10 years of related experience
  • Ability to read and analyze scientific/technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to communicate with customers, regulatory agencies, and business stakeholders; write and present technical information
  • Ability to apply engineering principles including stress/strain, torsion, bending, fatigue, buckling, fluid mechanics, and material science
  • Familiar with ANSI Y14.5 drawing and GD&T standards
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD engineering software (PTC Creo preferred)
  • Working knowledge of PLM (Windchill preferred)
  • Working knowledge of ERP (SAP preferred)
  • Ability to utilize custom MS Office environment
