Description

The Cloud Engineer manages and optimizes core infrastructure and services that enable engineering teams. The role emphasizes security, cost optimization, cloud hygiene, automation, operational efficiency, and scalability—covering infrastructure cost visibility and oversight of SaaS product permissions, contracts, costs, and licenses. By enforcing automation and resource management best practices, the role supports stable, secure, and cost-effective foundational systems.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design, build, and operational management of highly scalable, secure, available infrastructure operating 24x7
• Ensure infrastructure platforms are secure and can scale to support rapid growth in transaction volumes during peaks
• Limit or eliminate exposure to single points of failure
• Design and build infrastructure platforms with high security and respond swiftly to emerging threats and vulnerabilities
• Create tools and automated workflow capabilities to enable software engineers to test and promote code across environments with maximum velocity
• Collaborate with software engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle with an operational mindset
• Continuously improve the platform by introducing new technologies where appropriate, driving efficiency and reducing technical debt
• Work with engineering teams on solution design, capacity planning, and performance
• Promote and implement infrastructure and operational best practices; champion cloud-native design
• Provide out of hours support via scheduled rota or critical project delivery
• Ensure data stores handle data according to policies

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, Information Security/Assurance, Internal Audit, or equivalent experience
• Hands-on experience with AWS in a production environment
• Thorough understanding of Cloud Engineering pillars (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost optimization, Observability)
• Experience with a wide variety of AWS services in production
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration
• Hands-on Linux and Windows skills; strong understanding of DevOps principles
• Scripting skills (preferably Bash/Python)
• Experience with Terraform and configuration management tools
• Passion for immutable infrastructure as code
• Operational mindset and passion for observability
• Comfort working with multiple teams and balancing their needs
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Analytical approach with strong troubleshooting and complex system engineering problem-solving
• Experience creating highly available systems and scalable architectures
• Experience supporting network protocols including IP, TCP, HTTP, DNS, SSL
• Ability to balance multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Experience in enterprise-level storage and network technologies
• Consistent focus on automation and efficiency
• Experience in Agile environments and cross-functional (development) teams
• Experience with serverless technologies
• Willingness to attend conferences, webinars, and meet-ups and share learning
