About the job

We are looking for a Cloud Data Engineer to join a team of data experts and help build reliable data pipelines, analytical datasets, and cloud-based data solutions. The role will help expand and optimise the data platform, working across Data Lake and Data Warehouse architecture with a focus on cost and performance.

The role is suitable for an experienced mid-level engineer, or someone beginning to work at senior level. You will work with Databricks, AWS, Python, SQL, and dbt, supporting data products used by reporting, analytics, and AI-enabled solutions.

You will work alongside Data Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, Database Administrators, and Software Engineers on data initiatives, ensuring optimal data delivery architecture is consistent across ongoing projects. You must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. The role combines hands-on data engineering with the opportunity to contribute to modern areas such as BI as Code and AI-powered analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and transformations using Databricks, Spark, Python, SQL, and dbt.
  • Build and maintain curated data models supporting reporting, Power BI, analytics, and downstream applications.
  • Integrate data from multiple source systems and support incremental and automated data processing.
  • Build the ELT/ETL infrastructure required for data onboarding using AWS technologies.
  • Implement data quality checks, tests, monitoring, and error handling.
  • Investigate and resolve data issues, pipeline failures, and performance problems.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimising data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Work with Git, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
  • Support the team in applying BI-as-Code practices, including version-controlled semantic models, metadata, and automated deployments.
  • Contribute to data and metadata solutions used by AI agents and natural-language analytics tools.
  • Document solutions and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Commercial experience in data engineering or a similar role.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Practical experience with Python.
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL or ELT pipelines.
  • Experience with Spark, Databricks, or another cloud data processing platform.
  • An understanding of data modelling and analytical data structures.
  • Experience working with Git and collaborative software development practices.
  • The ability to troubleshoot data and pipeline issues.
  • Good communication skills and professional working proficiency in English.

Good to have

  • Experience with AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, or MWAA.
  • Experience with dbt.
  • An understanding of lakehouse and medallion architecture.
  • Experience with Power BI semantic models or BI-as-Code practices.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
  • Interest or initial experience in AI agents, text-to-SQL, metadata-driven analytics, or large language model applications.
  • Experience with data quality, metadata, governance, or data lineage tools.

What's in it for me?

  • Great private medical cover with dental care.
  • Life insurance.
  • Access to the MyBenefit platform with the option to select a Multisport card.
  • Company pension scheme (PPK).
  • One extra day annually to use for holiday.
  • Fully remote work from home.
  • Seasonal benefits, such as pre-paid Christmas cards and others.
  • The ability to build a meaningful career in a friendly and inclusive environment.
  • A promising career path and individual development plan.
