Senior Web Application Engineer - React

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Web Application Engineer with strong React and TypeScript experience to help build and evolve a large, complex web application used by enterprise customers in the industrial world. This is application development rather than website development.

You will work on a mature product with interconnected modules, rich user interactions, complex application logic, and functionality that continues to evolve over time. You will work on the highly interactive application layer through which users explore, understand, and work with complex, interconnected information. You will collaborate closely with frontend and backend engineers, product, and design.

The role requires navigating a complex product, understanding how different parts of the application affect each other, asking the right questions, and taking ownership when requirements are not fully defined.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve complex functionality in a large React and TypeScript application.
• Develop highly interactive application interfaces with complex user interactions, state, logic, and dependencies.
• Consider the broader product impact of changes and understand how different areas of the application interact.
• Build new functionality while maintaining and improving features already used by customers.
• Work with structured and interconnected data, asynchronous processes, backend services, and APIs.
• Collaborate closely with frontend and backend engineers on technical solutions and implementation.
• Work closely with the Product team to understand problems, shape solutions, and contribute beyond simply executing predefined tasks.
• Investigate problems, gather missing information, and propose solutions when requirements are not fully defined.

Required Skills

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong commercial experience with React and TypeScript.
• Proven experience building and maintaining large, complex web applications.
• Strong JavaScript fundamentals.
• Experience building complex application interfaces involving application state, business logic, asynchronous behavior, and dependencies between features.
• Experience working with large, existing codebases where changes may affect multiple areas of the product.
• Experience integrating frontend applications with backend services and working with structured and interconnected data.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently when requirements are not fully defined.
• Ability to ask questions, gather missing information, and proactively move work forward.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, production-ready code.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• At least B2 English level.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working in a product company, especially on a product developed and maintained over a longer period of time.
• Experience with products used by multiple customers or user groups.
• Experience working with mature products that contain legacy functionality and complex dependencies.
• Previous full-stack or backend development experience, ideally with .NET (C#).
• Understanding of backend concepts such as authentication, databases, API design, and data modelling.
• Experience with graphs, trees, diagrams, or other interconnected structures.
• Experience with interactive visualization using D3.js, PixiJS, SVG, or Canvas.
• Experience solving algorithmic or data-structure-related problems.
• Experience with GitLab and CI/CD.
• Experience working in a fast-changing product environment.
