Senior Site Reliability Engineer II

Job Description

SmartRecruiters is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer II for a fixed-term contract through the end of June 2027. The role has a single goal: improve the reliability posture by advancing observability capabilities, shaping culture, and addressing performance challenges associated with rapidly increasing scale.

The position is available only under a standard contract of employment with 80% tax-deductible cost. You may be located anywhere in Poland and work remotely or from the Cracow office.

You will

• Improve, automate, and grow observability and reliability tooling, including metrics, logs, traces, and alerting.
• Mentor engineering team members and advocate for modern SRE practices.
• Partner with product engineers working in Java, Node.js, and Python to design, instrument, and operate services for failure, jointly owning SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Create reusable building blocks, including dashboards, alerts, libraries, and IaC modules, for company-wide rollout.
• Respond to production incidents and client threats, lead remediation, and drive follow-up improvements.
• Document standards, best practices, and policies for monitoring, alerting, incident response, and reliability.
• Lead reliability-related initiatives.

Qualifications

• While not strictly required, most Senior Engineers II have 7+ years of professional experience.
• Working knowledge of SRE and observability industry standards and best practices, including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident management, and on-call.
• Software development experience in the JVM stack.
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and IaC tools and practices, including operating and troubleshooting distributed applications.
• Deep knowledge of Linux, focused on system hardening and troubleshooting performance issues.
• Very good scripting skills in Bash, Golang, or Python.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to coach and influence other engineers.
• Experience managing and troubleshooting SQL and NoSQL database systems is a plus.
• Understanding of networking standards, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, and load balancing, is a plus.
