Backend Java Developer (m/f/x)

About the Team

Join a team of experienced specialists delivering secure, stable, high-quality digital identity solutions. Reliability and IT security are central to the work, spanning applied cryptography and user-facing authentication flows. The team works in a collaborative Scrum setup with architects, developers, business analysts, testers, a Product Owner, and other stakeholders to deliver enhancements and updates to the MitID platform.

About the Role

As a Backend Java Developer, you will build secure, reliable, and scalable backend services for national digital identity infrastructure. The work focuses on Java-based backend development, applied cryptography, high availability, and continuous improvement of mission-critical systems.

You will design, develop, and maintain backend components; ensure code quality; troubleshoot complex issues; and contribute to the platform’s evolution. You will collaborate with team members to ensure seamless integration, stable deployments, and high-quality delivery across environments.

Main Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-quality backend components in Java.
• Write clean, maintainable code based on technical and functional specifications.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation for knowledge sharing and reporting.
• Identify, analyze, and resolve software defects.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and enhance existing backend services.
• Verify and deploy programs and systems across relevant environments.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the development team.
• Collaborate with architects, testers, and developers to ensure secure, stable delivery.

Requirements

• Experience developing enterprise IT systems and complex backend solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and containerized environments such as OpenShift.
• Understanding of cryptographic concepts and experience with security-related systems.
• Experience with relational databases, preferably Oracle.
• Practical experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
• Experience using Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.
• Experience with automated testing tools such as JUnit.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and backend architectural principles.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and related toolchains.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice to Have

• Frontend development experience, especially Angular.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Motivation and ability to learn new technologies.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team.
