Team Lead (Java)

We are looking for an experienced Team Lead (Java) who combines strong people leadership skills with deep technical expertise. As a Team Lead, you will support and develop team members while taking responsibility for the technical quality of the systems your team builds and operates.

This is a broad role within small, 3–5-person teams, with a limited meeting load. Beyond daily meetings, you will mainly attend meetings directly related to your team’s work and needs—typically 2–3 hours per week—allowing you to focus on technical decisions, team delivery, and people development.

You should have a very good understanding of your team’s technology stack, the ability to organize and coordinate work, and confidence in making technical decisions. You will also collaborate with other teams to keep delivery focused on value.

The role requires a strong background in backend development using modern Java technologies, several years of professional experience, and experience mentoring, leading, or coordinating engineers. A team-oriented approach, collaboration, knowledge sharing, collective problem-solving, and an interest in data and databases are important.

You will work closely with the Head of Software Development and Operations and contribute to wider department processes, including budget planning, DevOps and operations strategy, and technology decisions.

Product Area You Will Be Responsible For

Data Quality Guard

• Continuous validation and monitoring of business partner data, including identifiers, addresses, and bank accounts
• More than 1,500 community rules and customer-specific custom rules
• Unified data validation API
• Dashboards, reports, and tools providing data-quality insights
• Rules engine built on a knowledge graph using RDF/SPARQL and curated global reference data

Duplicate Guard

• Detection, analysis, and consolidation of duplicate business partner records within and across datasets
• Matching engine with data-cleansing mechanisms and phonetic, geospatial, and exact comparators
• Continuous duplicate monitoring and consolidation rules that create golden records

Tax Guard

• Verification and validation of direct and indirect tax identifiers, including EU VAT
• Verification of names and addresses against official registers
• Transactional and monitoring modes through a headless API

Key Responsibilities – People Leadership

• Take responsibility for team-member development through regular feedback and development conversations
• Organize the team’s work, assign tasks, monitor progress, and assess goal achievement
• Support HR with recruitment, onboarding, and other people-related processes
• Foster effective collaboration and a positive team culture
• Manage conflicts and address performance or collaboration issues
• Support team members’ skills development and career progression

Key Responsibilities – Technical Leadership

• Provide technical leadership and make key technical decisions
• Take responsibility for the technical quality of components developed by the team
• Mentor team members on technical topics
• Support knowledge sharing and technical capability development
• Define and enforce architectural and procedural standards
• Participate in recruitment and assess candidates’ technical competencies
• Collaborate with other technical leaders on architecture, performance, quality, and related topics

Leadership Scope & Collaboration

Work closely with the Head of Software Development and Operations and influence how the wider department operates. Contribute to budget planning, DevOps and operations strategies, and technology decisions across the department.
