The IT Cost & Contracts Manager manages cost-management processes across multiple IT business areas, ensuring consistent governance and controls for effective spend approval. The role involves detailed cost submissions with Business Managers, Procurement and COOs to secure optimal commercial deals and evidence cost-reduction activity.
The Technology Cost and Contract team governs third-party IT spend across Technology and continuously improves cost-management processes. The role works with IT CIOs, COOs and supporting teams to optimise the use of third-party hardware, software, resources and associated IT services, including the non-permanent workforce, to maximise value and cost savings.
You will manage the IT perspective of the contract lifecycle for assigned contracts, including early renewal evaluation, demand and requirement challenge, and collaboration with technical teams and procurement to achieve optimal commercial deals. Responsibilities include maintaining the IT contracts calendar, accurately articulating financial P&L profiles, owning renewal trigger points and driving follow-up actions. The role also supports progress towards a complete zero-based budgeting approach.
You will create and maintain a robust governance model for evaluating and reviewing IT expenditure and proactively drive cost reduction across Technology.
What you’ll do
Cost Management
- Oversee rigorous review and challenge of third-party cost submissions.
- Collaborate with Business Managers, Procurement, Architecture, Engineering and COOs to secure optimal commercial deals and demonstrate cost-reduction efforts.
- Gather relevant information from a wide range of sources to enable informed decision-making on technology hardware, software and other IT-related services.
Contract Lifecycle Management
- Support the IT contract lifecycle, including renewal evaluation, demand and requirement challenge, and collaboration with technical teams and Category to secure optimal commercial deals.
Governance and Controls
- Create and maintain a robust governance model for evaluating and reviewing IT expenditure.
- Proactively drive cost reduction across Technology while ensuring alignment with Technology, Finance, Procurement and Architecture requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build stakeholder relationships to improve engagement, influence decisions and ensure strong stakeholder advocacy.
- Work with senior management to elevate commercial awareness and optimise commercial decision-making.
Risk Management
- Promote a risk-aware culture and embed efficient risk and compliance processes.
- Manage operational risk and adhere to standards of ethical behaviour.
Business Case Development
- Analyse commercial and contractual information to define and articulate targeted benefits for change interventions.
- Develop detailed business cases covering investments, financial, non-financial and strategic benefits, costs and links to overall business finances.
Managing and Leading
- Support change through communication, preparation and implementation with peers and senior management.
- Contribute to risk and regulatory compliance, innovation and a more strategic approach.
- Support global joint commercial projects.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
- 3+ years of proven experience in vendor, cost or commercial management, or related procurement category roles, preferably in a multi-geography, multi-stakeholder financial institution or equivalent organisation.
- Track record of identifying cost-reduction or optimisation opportunities.
- Understanding of procurement sourcing and category-management principles and financial principles.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure technical platforms and vendor-management policies.
- Strong communication and influencing skills at all organisational levels.
- Analytical approach and ability to understand and resolve problems.
- Experience managing IT contracts and commercial awareness solutions.
