Senior Database Engineer, VP

About the role

Join as a leading technical contributor responsible for enhancing and maintaining one or more IMS modules or components within an Agile Scrum team. Contribute to strategic development projects and mission-critical optimization, resiliency, and performance improvements. Collaborate with engineering, product, QA, and sales teams to drive platform innovation and modernization.

This is a hybrid role requiring at least 3 days per week in the office, based in Krakow or Gdansk.

Database Design and Architecture

• Design and implement scalable, performant, highly available distributed database solutions.
• Collaborate across Scrum teams to deliver database designs that follow best practices and meet business and application requirements.
• Create and maintain documentation for database designs, data models, configurations, and processes.

Database Development and Optimization

• Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts to support application development.
• Optimize performance through indexing, SQL query optimization, and database tuning techniques.
• Monitor database performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and recommend short- and long-term solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on performance-test strategy and toolsets that generate synthetic datasets for repeatable testing.
• Implement and manage database security, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.

Database Administration

• Collaborate with the production DBA team to troubleshoot and resolve production database issues promptly.
• Monitor and maintain database health, data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery.
• Perform database installation, configuration, and upgrades in lower environments.

Collaboration and Leadership

• Provide technical leadership in database technologies and data modeling.
• Work with engineering, SaaS Operations, support, and implementation teams to ensure seamless database-system integration.
• Mentor junior database engineers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications backed by RDBMS databases or Snowflake.
• 10+ years of experience as a Database Architect or in a similar role supporting enterprise applications.
• Extensive hands-on experience as a database developer with RDBMS and distributed data platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability for troubleshooting database-related issues.
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or Snowflake.
• Track record of delivering high-performance, production-quality software on schedule.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and adapt quickly to change.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Expertise in hardware sizing and configuration, operating systems, scripting, and database technologies.
• NoSQL database experience.
• Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS.
• At least 7 years of Agile development methodology experience.
• Financial-markets application experience, including Fixed Income, Trading, FX, Risk, Portfolio/Wealth Management, Market Data, or FIX.

Recommended Education

• Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or another technical course of study required.
• Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Minimum salary: zł282,000 annually. Salary is determined using factors such as the position, work performed, individual skills, job description, working hours, diligence, initiative, self-management, length of employment, availability, and the quantity and quality of work delivered. Employees may also be considered for discretionary annual performance-based awards.
