Engineering Manager, Consumer Alliance

Senior • On-site

26,000 - 41,000 PLN/yr

Warsaw, MZ, Poland

As the Engineering Manager for the Customer Orders squad, you will lead the engineering vision and execution for the experience of actually getting a HelloFresh box. Your squad owns how a customer's order comes into being and is tracked: subscription orders created at cutoff and one-time purchases placed on demand, plus order tracking. This is the order-processing backbone that turns a customer's intent into a placed, accurate, trackable order across global brands.

This is a backend-first role. Order processing is where correctness, resilience, and scale matter most: every order must be accurate, idempotent, and traceable, and the platform must support around 7 million active customers across 18 countries, with close to 1 billion meals delivered a year. You and your team will work in a cross-functional squad with product, frontend, and data.

What you'll do

  • Lead, inspire, and grow a cross-functional team of 7 engineers, ensuring smooth delivery and continuous improvement of the Customer Orders systems and tech real estate.
  • Own the architecture and reliability of order creation and tracking—subscription orders placed at cutoff and one-time purchases on demand—with a strong focus on correctness, idempotency, data integrity, and operational excellence.
  • Drive design decisions for scalable, event-driven services, such as Kafka, that place and track high volumes of orders with the highest quality and resilience standards.
  • Operate as an engineering leader within a cross-functional squad; partner closely with product and data to deliver end-to-end customer outcomes and make joint decisions across disciplines.
  • Champion observability, on-call health, and incident readiness so order creation and tracking stay accurate and available around the clock.
  • Actively contribute to hiring and capacity planning, conduct regular code reviews, and mentor engineers.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture.

What you'll bring

  • Experience leading a team in an agile environment of 5+ engineers, ideally within a cross-functional squad setup.
  • 6+ years of hands-on backend development experience.
  • Deep experience building scalable microservices and event-driven systems, such as Kafka, especially where correctness, idempotency, and data consistency are critical—for example, order processing, payments, or other transactional domains.
  • Experience designing and operating high-throughput backend systems that other teams and customer-facing surfaces depend on.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including observability and production ownership.
  • A collaborative mindset and comfort working cross-functionally with product, frontend, and data partners.
  • Strong communication and active-listening skills.
  • Ability to operate autonomously, solve complex problems, and remove roadblocks.
  • Ability to motivate a team and support its development.
  • Nice to have: experience with React Native.

What we offer

  • Health: Private health insurance from the first day.
  • Flexible Working: In-office work 3 days a week to align on goals, with flexible hours to support work-life balance and personal needs.
  • Time Off: 26 days of paid vacation each year.
  • Learning and Development: An annual Learning & Development budget and a Mentoring Program to support ongoing professional growth.
  • Employee Referral Program: A bonus for recommending successful candidates to open roles.
  • Daily Comforts: Free coffee, drinks, and fresh fruit.
