Senior AI Engineer

We’re hiring a Senior AI Engineer to join an early-stage healthtech company building AI-powered software that combines conversational interfaces, voice AI, and digital avatars to streamline healthcare workflows. The platform leverages large language models and agentic systems to create interactive experiences for patients and providers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and backend engineering
• Hands-on experience building systems with OpenAI, Claude, or comparable LLM platforms and agentic frameworks
• Production experience implementing RAG architectures, tool calling, and complex API integrations
• Experience deploying and managing applications on AWS or other major cloud platforms
• Proven track record of building and shipping production web applications
• Practical experience with voice AI technologies including speech-to-text and text-to-speech
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of technical decisions, and operate without close supervision

Nice to have

• Experience with digital avatar technologies, such as Tavus
• Background in healthcare or another regulated industry
• Experience taking a prototype through to a production platform
• Prior work in an early-stage startup environment

Responsibilities

• Review the existing prototype and codebase and assess what can be carried forward
• Design the target architecture for a scalable, multi-customer AI platform
• Build backend services and APIs in Python
• Develop agentic LLM features using OpenAI or Claude models, including RAG and tool calling
• Integrate voice AI components for speech-to-text and text-to-speech
• Integrate digital avatar technology into the product experience
• Set up and manage cloud infrastructure, deployment, and monitoring on AWS
• Take features from concept through to production deployment for real customers
• Make build-versus-rebuild decisions and document architectural choices
• Collaborate with the founder and the lead engineer on technical direction and priorities
