Senior SCADA Software EngineerRole OverviewJoin a Real-Time Industrial Solutions team supporting a business-critical SCADA platform used 24/7 to help maintain the balance and stability of the European electricity grid.The team develops and maintains solutions for real-time control, monitoring and integration of power generation and flexible energy assets across several European countries. The platform supports key grid-balancing mechanisms such as FCR, aFRR and mFRR and facilitates real-time communication with Transmission System Operators (TSOs).Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain a mission-critical SCADA application used for real-time power system operations.Work across backend and frontend development, using SCIL as well as HTML5, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript.Design scalable, robust and maintainable software architectures.Apply software engineering best practices such as SOLID, DRY, KISS and YAGNI.Contribute to an Agile/SAFe environment and collaborate with developers, analysts, architects, dispatchers and business stakeholders.Participate in on-call support after onboarding to help ensure high system availability.Continuously improve development practices, reliability and the overall technical environment.Key RequirementsMaster's degree in IT, software engineering, electrical engineering or a related technical discipline.At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.Strong software engineering mindset combined with an understanding of industrial environments.Good understanding of electricity generation, transmission and grid balancing concepts.Structured, proactive and solution-oriented approach.Comfortable working in a 24/7, high-responsibility environment where reliability is critical.Able to react quickly to incidents while also looking for sustainable long-term solutions.Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Curious, autonomous and willing to learn new technologies and domain-specific concepts.Awareness of cybersecurity requirements in ICS/OT environments, including NIS2.Nice to HaveExperience with Industrial control systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity.Experience with version control and CI/CD, preferably with GitHub.Knowledge of software architecture and design patterns.Other DetailsThe initial assignment is approximately 220 working days / 1,760 hours, with flexibility to work in a hybrid model and potential for long-term collaboration based on performance. Regular on-site presence in Belgium is required, with occasional travel to industrial sites or other European locations.
