Role Summary
State Street Investment Management’s Data, Analytics & AI Services (DAAIS) team is seeking a Software Engineering Principal (Vice President) for its Data Platform in Krakow, Poland. The role focuses on building and operating backend services, APIs, microservices, cloud-native components, and migration frameworks for Snowflake and Databricks workloads on AWS or Azure.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver core backend services including APIs, microservices, orchestration/workflow, and metadata/access services.
- Architect large-scale distributed components on AWS/Azure with focus on scalability, resiliency, and low latency.
- Own operations including on-call support, incident response, post-incident reviews, and reliability improvements.
- Build and operate migration frameworks/utilities for Snowflake and Databricks.
- Engineer security-by-design capabilities including authentication, authorization, encryption, and audit-ready logging.
- Design event-driven integration patterns using Kafka, Kinesis, and Event Hubs.
- Deliver developer productivity tools such as dashboards, SDKs, CLIs, and templates.
- Lead agile delivery activities and improve engineering practices using AI-assisted SDLC tools.
- Set engineering standards and direction for platform services.
- Build and lead a software engineering pod, including coaching and performance management.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of software engineering experience delivering large-scale distributed systems.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Strong object-oriented design skills including SOLID principles and design patterns.
- Strong proficiency in Java and/or Python.
- Experience designing and operating microservices and APIs using REST, RPC, gRPC, and OpenAPI.
- Hands-on cloud-native experience with AWS and/or Azure.
- Experience integrating with Snowflake and Databricks.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep.
- Experience building event-driven systems using Kafka, Kinesis, Event Hubs, or Flink.
- Experience with observability tools including OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Strong CI/CD, automated testing, and secure development practices.
- Leadership experience within engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI-assisted SDLC initiatives such as Copilot or Claude Code.
- Experience building internal developer automations and engineering agents.
- Familiarity with AI governance in regulated environments.
