About the Role
State Street Investment Management (formerly State Street Global Advisors) is seeking an Application Development Manager, VP to join the Global Funds Management (GFM) Engineering team within the Chief Operating Officer (COO) organization.
This is a hands-on senior technology leadership role with responsibility for application architecture, engineering delivery, and operational excellence supporting critical Global Funds Management business functions. The role blends strategic leadership with direct technical contribution, requiring deep involvement in solution design, complex engineering initiatives, and production support for business-critical platforms.
The successful candidate will lead by example shaping architectural direction, advancing engineering standards, and driving execution across distributed teams while partnering closely with senior business and technology stakeholders. This role follows a hybrid working model, requiring four days per week onsite at our Krakow office.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as Application Development Manager and Technical Lead, providing hands‑on leadership to a team of senior engineers
Own and actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements definition, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and production support
Lead architecture and design reviews, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and long‑term technology strategy
Provide architectural direction across multiple development teams and complex workstreams
Contribute to technology strategy, roadmap development, and platform modernization initiatives
Ensure solutions meet high standards of performance, scalability, security, resiliency, and operational excellence
Evaluate and drive adoption of agentic AI and AI-assisted engineering frameworks and tools to improve developer productivity and effectiveness across the enterprise SDLC
Collaborate closely with global, cross-functional technology and business teams to deliver outcomes aligned with business priorities
Provide senior level technical support and oversight for business-critical applications, including troubleshooting and incident resolution
Coach, mentor, and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and engineering excellence
Promote modern engineering practices and evaluate emerging tools and technologies for strategic benefit
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred
10+ years of experience delivering large‑scale, distributed enterprise applications, with strong hands‑on expertise in Java, Python, Spring Boot, and Microservices architectures
4+ years of experience designing, building and operating applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Strong object-oriented design expertise, including design patterns, SOLID principles, and modern engineering best practices
Strong proficiency in Java (preferred) and/or Python, with experience building scalable, high-performance services
Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with relational databases
Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) is strongly valued
Experience contributing to operating model design, process definition, or complex cross-functional initiatives
Proven execution skills with strong attention to detail, ownership, and follow-through
Clear, structured communicator, comfortable engaging with stakeholders at multiple levels of seniority
Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, global environment, leading multiple workstreams concurrently
Experience in financial services industry, particularly enterprise application architecture and development
AWS Certification (Cloud Developer or Solution Architect) strongly preferred
