State Street Investment Management is seeking an Application Development Lead, AVP to join the Global Funds Management (GFM) Engineering team within the Chief Operating Officer (COO) organization. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with responsibility for application architecture, engineering delivery, and operational excellence in support of Global Funds Management business functions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in solution design and implementation, contributing directly to critical engineering workstreams while leading by example. The position involves new software development and requires experience in financial software or a strong understanding of and interest in financial markets.

This role follows a hybrid working model, requiring three days per week onsite at the Krakow office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead and senior individual contributor within a team of experienced engineers
  • Analyze, design, develop, test, and debug complex software solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Python, and SQL
  • Build and maintain data-driven applications leveraging Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Redshift databases
  • Collaborate closely with geographically distributed, cross-functional technology and business teams
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for business-critical functions
  • Ensure high-quality delivery through unit testing, automation testing, and manual test execution
  • Design and lead the implementation of DevOps practices, including automated CI/CD pipelines and environment setup (Development, QA, UAT, Production, and Disaster Recovery)
  • Evaluate and advance the use of agentic AI frameworks to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the enterprise software development lifecycle (eSDLC)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred
  • Strong object-oriented design expertise, including design patterns, SOLID principles, and modern engineering best practices
  • Strong proficiency in Java (preferred) and/or Python, with experience building scalable, high-performance services
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience delivering large-scale, distributed enterprise applications using Java, Python, Spring Boot, and Microservices
  • 3+ years of experience designing and deploying applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with relational databases
