Industrial Hygienist
Salary: $80,000-$100,000
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Hygienist to assess workplace environments within the City of Philadelphia. The ideal candidate will be able to identify health and safety hazards, including chemical, physical, and biological risks; will bring a strong foundation in environmental and occupational safety with demonstrated industrial hygiene experience. This role is responsible for evaluating exposures, implementing control strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting programs that promote employee health and safety. The position partners with leadership and employees to drive a proactive and compliant safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct workplace health and safety assessments, including air monitoring, noise surveys, and exposure evaluations (chemical, biological, and physical hazards)
- Develop and implement hazard control strategies, including engineering and administrative controls
- Interpret and ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, and state/local requirements)
- Prepare technical reports, exposure assessments, and recommendations for leadership
- Lead or support incident investigations, including those involving occupational health exposures
- Design and deliver training on health and safety programs (e.g., respiratory protection, hazard communication, PPE)
- Support and maintain EHS programs such as respiratory protection, hearing conservation, hazard communication, and chemical management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, maintenance, leadership) to drive continuous improvement in safety performance
Experience
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in environmental health and safety, with industrial hygiene experience required
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, exposure assessment methodologies, and environmental compliance requirements
- Experience with industrial hygiene sampling equipment and data interpretation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or closely related field required
- Degrees in public safety or unrelated disciplines are not typically aligned with the technical requirements of this role
Certifications & Licensure
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent are preferred but not required
- Valid driver's license (or ability to obtain one) required
