About the Role
As part of the xAI EHS Team, you will provide timely, clear, and high-quality technical expertise and assist in the implementation of all environmental, health, and safety programs for the construction, expansion, and operation of advanced AI infrastructure and large-scale compute facilities. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in both environmental and occupational safety, hands-on, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Responsibilities include supporting related programs to ensure overall operational success.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain compliance with regulations established by OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, and other relevant agencies.
- Collaborate with leadership, engineering teams, and facility managers to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies.
- Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards and recommend remedial actions when standards are not met.
- Ensure compliance with EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, and other environmental and transportation regulations.
- Perform detailed safety reviews of complex operations involving high-power systems, cooling infrastructure, and hazardous materials.
- Lead or assist incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
- Implement and develop safety programs, including:
- OSHA general industry and construction standards
- HAZCOM, hazmat handling, cryogenics, high-pressure and high-voltage systems
- Confined space, fall protection, lock-out/tag-out, and electrical safety
- Develop practical safety solutions following the hierarchy of controls (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE).
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, chemical spills, power events, etc.).
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, occupational safety, environmental science, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in EHS program design and oversight in high-tech manufacturing, data centers, or industrial construction environments.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Advanced degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or aerospace) with emphasis on occupational health and safety.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification.
- Knowledge of process safety management, high-power electrical systems, liquid cooling infrastructure, and chemical delivery systems.
- Strong experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Additional Requirements
