CR's product and service testing center in Yonkers, NY is the largest nonprofit educational and consumer product testing center in the world. Food and product safety tests are conducted using state-of-the-art equipment combined with data to provide expert advice to consumers.
As a Chemist/Toxicologist Senior Project Leader on the Product Safety team, you will analyze and interpret chemical contaminant data across consumer product categories to identify hazards and assess human health risks. You will translate complex scientific findings into clear, defensible guidance to ensure consumer safety.
This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) with an expectation to be on-site one day per week. This is a limited duration position ending May 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension. The role is not eligible for sponsorship or relocation assistance.

- Risk Assessment: Conduct evaluations of consumer products to identify chemical hazards and assess human health risks beyond baseline regulatory requirements.
- Laboratory Liaison: Collaborate with external lab partners to establish testing protocols and detection limits for contaminants such as heavy metals, PFAS, phthalates, VOCs, and bisphenols.
- Technical Consultation: Provide expert guidance on chemical and allergen risks across product categories.

About You
- B.S. or higher in Chemistry, Toxicology, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in analytical chemistry, toxicology, risk assessment, or consumer product safety
- Familiarity with ICP-MS, GC-MS, and LC-MS/MS instrumentation
- Working knowledge of PFAS, heavy metals, phthalates, and VOC toxicology
- Knowledge of FDA, EPA, CPSC, EU REACH, and Health Canada regulations
- Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D preferred)
- Background in consumer product safety or risk assessment frameworks (HQ, HI, MoS) preferred
